Short Sleeve Day

Eyes east this month (September).  Watch psoriasis-cure-now.com because things are popping there.

Psoriasis Cure Now is aggregating supporters around a Short Sleeve Day campaign. Benefit events are being planned in a few cities (so far) and strategist Michael Paranzino is encouraging those not close to the event to order a T-shirt anyway and join the event “virtually.” (It’s a cool T-shirt.  Click here to see me wearing mine.) Click frequently on the subhead above between now and September 15 to get the latest on the event — and to register.

Psoriasis Cure Now Video Contest

I told you things were popping at Psoriasis Cure Now. Another Big Activity is the video contest that’s in its final few weeks this month. The mission behind the contest is to gather some 30-60 second video messages about psoriasis that feature Psoriasis Cure Now, the D.C.-based non-profit focused on raising government funding for research toward a cure and ensuring access to drugs for all psoriatics. The organization wants videos it can use to inform (and entertain) policy makers and others.

Two “early bird” prizes of $1,000 each were awarded in August. Go here to watch the videos. A finalist prize — $7,500 — will be awarded later this month, along with several $250 prizes to a number of runners up. Click here for the main page of the contest web site. Whether or not you enter a video of your own, you should visit the site and watch the videos already submitted. There are some somber, didactic, humorous and hilarious videos there already.

FlakeHQ Interviews Phil Aaronson (a Short Sleeve Day coordinator)

The Psoriasis Cure Now September Seismic phenomenon could not be passively “observed” here at FlakeHQ, so I jumped on the train by interviewing a very interesting young man who’s coordinating the Short Sleeve Day benefit in San Francisco on Friday night, September 14. (Michael Paranzino, founder of Psoriasis Cure Now, says the San Francisco event, which starts at 9:00 p.m. Friday on the West Coast, IS on Short Sleeve Day, Saturday the 15th on the East Coast.  9 p.m. Pacific is Midnight Eastern. He's so clever!)

Aaronson is, among other things, a musician and his band is headlining the musical program at the Short Sleeve Day benefit in San Francisco.  For the complete low down, read the interview, or start at the FlakeHQ Interviews page.

Flaker Creativity: Sheehan's Latest

FlakeHQ Poet Laureate Sherry Sheehan offers “FLAKERS & PEELERS” this month. In addition to her usual wit and word-play, this poem is a response to any Flaker who thinks poetry about our condition cannot be educational. Go directly to the poem, or start at the Sherry Sheehan page at FlakeHQ.
