Response to Clara's Letter
from Patty W.

To Clara Dewke: Your letter made me cry! I just broke out with spots all over my body at the age of forty. I had just gotten out of a really bad relationship, determined to believe that I could find a healthy loving relationship ... and then this! I almost stayed with an alcoholic, emotionally abusive boyfriend because at least he "accepted" me with all these spots ... who else will? But then one day the fact that I had this disease made me even more determined to find a truly happy relationship! I decided that maybe this was a blessing in disguise. Maybe for the first time in my life I will be forced to judge a man by his depth of character and his depth of love for me. Maybe because of this disease I will be more determined to see myself as more than a pretty face. Your husband is a lucky guy and you are kind to share your loving thoughts with all of us. Thanks. -Patty W.

Clara's Response: I was glad that my letter touched you. Of course, I can't respond as a person who suffers from psoriasis, but I can say flakers can be loved a lot (I love mine!). You do not need to settle for less than complete, unconditional love—certainly not because of your P! You will find someone just like Ed did! -Clara D.
