Second Pregnancy Made P Worse:  Comments?
from Charm

Hi Ed!  I've had P for 12 years and it has only been over the last 6 months that I have started really looking for help.  My P was always pretty manageable — in fact, nobody really could tell I had anything out of the ordinary.  Some people thought it was mosquito bites!

Three years ago I had my first child.  During my pregnancy the P cleared up significantly but right after my son was born, it flared.  I had it on my arms and legs but it still didn't affect my daily life too much. When I got pregnant again 14 months later, my P progressively got worse until I am where I am now.  I have a 2 1/2 year old and an 8 month old and my P is itching and burning.  I'd never  experienced that before.  I am now about 80% covered and horrified!

I've just started taking MTX.  I would like to know, from any other women out there who have had kids and their P flared, did it quiet down afterwards?  Once your

hormones returned to normal, did the P return to its former state?  I'd love to hear from any P sufferers who have had children to compare notes, etc.  -Charm

Ed’s Response:  Hopefully some FlakeHQers with pregnant pasts will compare notes with you here, Charm, but in the meantime you should visit the National Psoriasis Foundation web site.  If you are a member there’s plenty to read by searching on “pregnancy” from their home page.  Also (again, if you are a member) you should post your questions in their member forum.  If you’re NOT a member, don’t despair — you can join on line and membership costs whatever you care to donate.  Wouldn’t it be nice if the derms and pharmacists worked that way?

In the meantime, I hope your MTX regimen will work for you.  It did for me, but it did take several weeks to “kick in.” -Ed
