Hi I have just found this site and I'm crying my eyes out with relief.  I am female, 39, and about 4 years ago I began to have itching scalp with hair loss.  Now I have about half the hair I used to and  the texture has changed.  I just did not know what was wrong with me.  My doctor said Oh-don't-worry, you only have dandruff.  But thanks to you I know what it is and am now looking at herbal treatments to fix this problem.

Regarding the itching: get some brown vinegar, about half a cup, add about 3 cups of warm water and rinse your scalp with it.  Instant relief for a few days...  Thank you thank you thank you so very much.  -Sharon

In Adele Davis’s book, Lets Get Well, she states P is caused by faulty fat metabolism and people who suffer from P have too much Cholesterol in their blood.  She says reduce cholesterol, and the P should clear up.  ??

For me, if I eat wheat — especially in the form of pasta — I have a terrible flare up on the scalp.  –Sharon

Ed’s Response:  Sharon, I’m glad you like FlakeHQ and I’m happy to learn something you read here has improved your flaking, itching scalp, but you do need to see a dermatologist.  The very last thing you wrote — about having terrible scalp flare-ups when you eat pasta — suggests an allergy that isn’t related to P at all.

What makes flaking, inflamed lesions “psoriasis” and not something else hasn’t much to do with topical products that might, at least temporarily, improve the situation.  Your vinegar rinse may palliate itching scalp no matter what the underlying cause.

A dermatologist will determine if you really have P through close observation and review of your history with the symptoms and what you’ve done about them.  If it is determined that you do have P, a whole host of treatment options will be considered based on your particular P involvement, lifestyle and other factors.  Please don’t deprive yourself of this professional help based on anything you read on the web. 

And regarding Adele Davis’s book:  She is drawing lines between dietary behaviors and P that may have connections but, if they do, they are most certainly indirect.  Many illustrations of this point.  Here’s one:  You start off in your car and the right front end is going “thunk thunk thunk” and your steering wheel is jerking and your brakes are pulling to one side.  You stop, get out, notice the right front tire is flat.  To solve the problem you replace the steering system, the brake system, the front end including the right wheel and tire.  Your problem has gone away — until the next time you get a flat tire.  Lowering your cholesterol — if it is high to begin with — is a good idea for a few dozen reasons.  Adele suggests it will clear up psoriasis as well.  It’s a free country.  I would wager, however, that there are a lot of flakers out there who don’t have too much cholesterol to begin with.  If they successfully lowered their cholesterol any further they might die.  Of course, that solves their flaking problem, which means Adele’s argument remains indisputable.  Sort of.
